A Tempranillo as incredible as the price tag

I am always looking for a good inexpensive everyday red wine, and boy have I found one in Flaco Tempranillo. Coming in at $7.99 per bottle this is a well balanced, flavorful red that is great to drink on it’s own, and can pair with all sorts of food, from chicken to red meat and even seafood.

Flaco Tempranillo comes to us from the outskirts of Spain’s capital city of Madrid. The organically grown, dry farmed vineyards are located just southwest of the city the at an elevation of 2,400 ft with sand, limestone and clay soil mixture. The hot days and cool nights play a major part in the grapes slow ripening, creating great balance of sugar and acidity. The yields of the vineyard are very low which create consistency year after year and wines that showcase high quality for a great price point.

This 100% Tempranillo wine is made very simply to show the true character of these thick skinned grapes and the terroir in which it is grown. After harvest in mid September the grapes are macerated in and fermented in stainless steel for ten days, then aged in cement vats.

Like I said earlier Flaco Tempranillo is well balanced, starting off with fresh red berry and spice on the nose. On the palate the wine is silky and smooth with flavors of tangy raspberry and tart cherry. A light floral quality followed by smooth tannins create a tight and focused finish.

Flaco is a must add to your wine collection for everyday consumption, after all you can get a case for under $80. So the better question is why wouldn’t you?
